In moving some instruments about, I'm going to need to mount the ones above the hatch on a board, because they won't fit the existing holes in the hatch-garage console face. The cockpit currently has various pieces of old, untreated teak - the seat tops, the top of the binnacle, some trim on the top of the coaming, etc. I don't need a perfect colour match, but I'd like the new wood not to look glaringly out of keeping with the rest (well, it will to begin with, I mean after it has faded).

I have a stock of sapele in the shed that I used for interior work on KS. That was always varnished or oiled, though, and in any case was out of the sun. So it always stayed a rich, dark brown, of course nothing like cockpit teak. Can anyone enlighten me as to what it looks like when untreated and mounted on deck? Does it end up anywhere close to the colour of teak?

Cheers,

Pete
