What do you use to protect your lips from chapping?

As a sun block I have used Sudocrem a few times in hot bright sun and zero cloud. A thick smear on lips. I am unsure if it works or not but I don’t seem to get sunburnt or sore lips. Also, if cruising for days at a time I apply a thick smear on nose and top of cheeks, on top of normal suncream. Always wearing a hat on the water in the sun as well. Would be be interested if anyone knows medically Sudocrem should work ok or if it offers no protection at all.

Almost any of the moisturising or grease type creams will help just needs to be applied often. I use an arab type hat which covers ears and lower face. Saves on sun cream but I still tend to need it on cheeks and nose. Even in temps over 40 I always wear long trousers and long sleeved shirt plus gloves. Sun cream on feet. Sun can be a real killer. olewill

U/V lip salve is easiest because you can keep it in your pocket and replenish it as often as needed. Prevention is better than a cure.

This stuff is excellent:

I found out the hard way that my bottom lip can get badly sunburned. Just to top it up, I then sipped some scalding hot coffee :disgust:

Went straight out to Boots and bought the lipscreen. I ensure it is in my pocket when sailing and apply it 2 or 3 times throughout the day, no probs since, even round the Med.

This seems to work for Eddie.

I find the Nivea stick which is palm oil based much better than any of the petroleum jelly based ones.

Recently crossed Malaysia by road and was shocked at the scale of monoculture due to palm plantations. Ithasmade me think about the use of products that contain palm oil. I am not criticising you, just my own observation. :-)
