What do you tow with?

In general for towing you need diesel car with auto transmission. I am using my Land Rover disco TDi for towing, however, I have also used my Merc E300 turbodiesel auto on steep slipways and towing on roads 2 tonne boats. With the Merc you forcet that you are towing. So definately you need auto and diesel

Will be using on a daily basis but very low mileage as I live close to work. For this reason looking for a slightly newer model (with heating etc.)!!

Paul - still waiting for further details of yours (have you checked your PM's)?

Can someone explain the tax implications of what 4x4 you own and year? I was looking at Land Rover Discovery's about 2000-2002?

I tow a Parker 21 on an RM breakback trailer with a Seat Leon. It's the 120 hp TD one so there's loads of torque and it's a nicely nippy bit of kit for the 99% of the time I'm not towing the boat. I only do a few miles a year so that sets the priorities a bit in favour of a very nippy hatch - I don't think I could put up with a 4x4 for the 1%!

The magic bit is the breakback trailer ! You only need to get the tyres just touching the water to launch or recover so the bearings and brakes don't get pickled each time.
