What do you do when you get there?

But thats the point

So with your planing MoBo you get to your favourite anchorage an hour or two before me (a mere raggie) - so what do you do with the extra time at anchor?

You set off with a vague idea of how long you will be at anchor and plan departure around that (weather depending of course)....then drink

Not me necessarily, but dive for lobsters, prepare and use the ringo, set the kids off in the tender, fish, prepare BBQ so it is ready in time for lunch, explore ashore, read morning paper, sun bath, spice ropes with a nice view and watch raggies beat across the bay to arrive just as we are packing up to get back before the tide.

Main thing is, for many of us Moboers, we have had a full day of activities and are on the long road trip home before the traffic builds up.

truth be known, my boat's a pig at anchor the slightest wash and she rolls all over the place, probably too small/light, so I spend the extra time going up a river/cove/sheltered inlet to where you don't suffer from, A. the traffic of passing boats or B. the wash of nature, wind induced waves, that said, having legs does give an edge to getting into shallow places as well.

Ah, well we spend an hour or so winding down from the stresses of bouncing off the top of all the waves on the way, then we get bored, drive round in circles to amuse ourselves, then sit back with a brew and watch the raggies arrive all chilled out and laid back.

I'm kiddin' of course :D

Well, we left Holyhead about lunch time, Had a snack anchored at the brick works, went on to Molefree, but it was far to busy, so came back to Conwy.

Mind, it took two weeks to go all the way round Anglsey.

Well i'm mainly sail but also have a mobo but sailing just chill out and fish etc but on mobo water skiing etc. just nicer on the yacht not pooring hundreds of quid of petrol in.A morning on the mobo is easily 200 quid.Yacht maybe 2 quid.

(snip)

"That's the way to do it!"

Racing saily boats do it in a day, but don't see or do anything but sail as hard as they can. I did it in 3 days last month & visited 2 places I hadn't been to before despite 30 years of cruising. The whole point of cruising is spending time pottering, exploring & relaxing.

It takes me 4 hours to cruise to my favourite Anchorage , I would be impressed if you can catch me up in two hours ;)

A few friends to join in for a near perfect day :)

Go for a swim, sunbathe a bit, consume a leisurely lunch with a botle or 2 of vino collapso, snooze in the sun a bit more, wake myself up with another swim and, if we're feeling energetic, take the dinghy to the shore for a stroll. If I get bored I amuse myself by reading the instruction manual for the chartplotter.
Then, just as the sun is setting, zoom back to the marina reflecting on another glorious moboing day.

Dont you mean
confuse myself by reading the instruction manual for the chartplotter

Its also a question that in a given time, you can get further, so your options open up. And of course you need more time to resolve all the WNS that befall a mobo.

You're right of course. The reality is that I normally spend the whole day at anchor repairing things that have gone wrong with the boat on the trip to the anchorage and frantically calling my credit card company to renegotiate my card limit so I can afford to put fuel in the boat to get her back to the marina:(

Thank goodness for cordless powertools, otherwise we'd have to stay in the marina, though I have still to locate a cordless sewing machine for an impromptu re-upholstery. I built an extra cabin the other lunchtime.

Ah - is that a new WNS ??

You're halfway to the anchorage and you check the fuel gauge and notice you'll have to fill up on the way back. The only choice is an expensive fuel stop adjacent to a Shopping Complex complete with Bowling Alley & Cinema ...
SWMBO has already planned her shopping trip around the expensive boutiques and the teenagers onboard have checked their iPhones for the films on show and have prebooked a lane at the Alley ....
Your CC is still maxed out from the previous fill and SWMBO doesn't plan to have any space on hers. Despite shaking the teenagers by the ancles you've only russled up £80 in battered notes and a stick of chewing gum ....
Added to this is that you did a runner last time you filled up here and the attendant now has the police with him to arrest you on sight ...

WNS?

We have to get there and anchored an hour or two before the raggies, else they will all be moaning about our wake.

Being unconfrontational types costs us a lot of fuel.

Therefore, as this fuel is burned to enhance the raggies enjoyment of the anchorage, they should pay for it.
