What do you do when a forumite doesn\'t pay you for goods sold

Advertised them here. Sent the items. Acknowledged and accepted. Supposedly sent cash which he thinks the girl in the PO knicked. Has put in a claim. Weeks go by. PMs sent to him (read but no response). OK its only £30 - but it is only £30 and this place would die if trust was not part of the synergy.

Any thugs on here who live near Rochester?

Bit silly of your buyer to send cash throught the post [if unregistered]. It's up to the buyer to make sure his payment reaches you. Not your fault if it gets nicked en route.

If he has made a claim against the Post Office then he agrees that you have not had the payment so he must send you another £30.

I must say I have bought and sold many items on this forum and never had the slightest problem so it would be a pity if someone spoilt it.

It does seem odd that anyone in this day and age would send cash through the post...

Is he still around - as in, is he still posting on here? If so, and you've already sent PMs with no reply forthcoming, what about copying and pasting your post above into a thread he has posted on? He will almost certainly receive a copy of your post via email. It might just prick his conscience.

I don't know what you do. It happened to me for a similar amount. I wrote it off to experience, but it still rankles over a year later.
It feels a bit like having something nicked from your locker at school.

Call me bitter & twisted but I wouldn't have! I once helped someone out and emailed what he had asked for. Never heard from him again - no 'thank you', nothing! Fortunately it didn't cost me anything otherwise my response (or lack of) would have been somewhat different and quite vocal. He still posts on here intermittently, usually when he wants help or advice.

In this case cash was sent through the post (yeah, right!) and surprise, surprise, didn't arrive, weeks go by, PM's sent and read but no reply... Sounds like a bit of a scoundrel to me.

The only problem with not naming him, is that all the rest of us are left under a cloud.

He / she needs naming so we allknow who to avoid in our on line dealings , must name and shame MNAS

Lost in the post that is so obviously a lie if he was a decent bloke he would have at least been in touch regularly or sent you another payment

Dont let him do this to other people (i cant find an angry smiley)

In fairness, we had a thread similar to this a few months ago. The 'villain' had a genuine reason why he hadnt responded, and was very apologetic about it.

For example, liveaboards dont always have full internet access.

I obviously have no way of knowing if this applies in your case, but would counsel against 'naming and shaming' if you are not sure.

Nick - I have caused enough chaos on another forum today (which you may have seen).

I'm giving him a chance but he received the goods on 18th October and says he sent the money recorded delivery on 21st October. As he has been on the forum since then he is not liveaboard or in communicado.
