was the most useful thing you have learnet to do on your boat.

Mine was how to stay calm though just about anything, but
that is from an instructors view,

OH and a biggy, alway
show peeps how to tie fenders and throw ropes and tie up,
BEFORE you leave the berth.

Don't panic

Yes I agree with you I think the most important thing I have learnt is to do things slowly when berthing and remember that it is not a car. Collision is not imminent, you have at least 2 or 3 seconds. Think. Look at your helm position, look at your engine knobs and decide how to undo what you just did.

And then tell your crew you meant to get that close to that other boat!

Drink beer in cans....it may be sunny but you can get a bit of a chop and broken glass on a boat is just plain dangerous !! :D :D

Seriously though, do things slowly and if you don't like the look of it, go back a step or two and re-attempt..

...oh and never assume some knob has a clue about colregs...

Neutral is the gear in which students can cause least damage but is also the gear they like least !!

......... and when it all goes wrong, stop, take a deep breath and then "TCUP" - Think Clearly Under Pressure
