I've a 26' CW with the original dark green gel finish. Quite a few about which are the same colour. There are a couple of old repairs which I'd like to tidy up but can't find any details of the colour and would appreciate some information. The CW owner's sites don't seem to have much in the way of recent postings? Any Ideas? Thanks.

Whatever colour it was it will be a chalky faded version now. You can coat with owatrol to freshen it up or for a very few hundred paint it afresh with Toplac.

If I remember correctly, Colvic used two different shades of dark green at different times: "racing green" RAL 6005 and a slightly darker green, "Black green" RAL 6012. However, in either case the finish will have faded to some extent in the intervening years, and use of the original colour may stand out. A good professional should be able to match the colour of the new gelcoat so that it is practically imperceptible.

Racing green RAL 6005, but it can be restored using a good polishing machine and compounds followed by repolishing should bring her back to a nice shine, then wax it to hold the shine.

Painting the hull will take thousands off the boats value as most future buyers will want an original gel coat finish, I do 'Pre Buying Inspections visits' only on Colvic Watsons for new buyers and If I find a painted hull
then my alarm bells are ringing as to why did they paint it in the first place ands what's underneath!

A Green British Standard Colour was named British Racing Green, as was Perkins Grey, Massey Ferguson Red, Perhaps JCB Yellow. Ford Diamond White is also a very good match for white Gell Coat.
You could try and borrow some colour chips from a car paint supplier and match it up but at the same time you could look up British Racing Green on the internet and print a colour out and touch it to the hull. Sometimes they have three shades of one colour, light shade, normal, dirty shade. if you really need to be precise.

Mike I think you'll find many Colvic Watson's are painted. Full credit for getting Caer Urfa looking so good without painting her but lots of us have to with coloured gel coat.
