Ragpots of yore got boiled in vats

Thought it was "gained battles in vain" not "gave battles in vain". You can't "give" battles.

G’day Stewart.
I recall reading a survey conducted by a major insurance company some time ago, the interesting bit detailed the number of vessels hit by Whales and noted the colour of the antfoul at the time. Black was at the top of the list and red was at the bottom.

Does that mean red antifoul and black topsides?
I think that the most important thing is to avoid pale blue, white, or similar light colours IF your boat has Bilge Keels and if there are short-sighted whales about; you might suddenly find yourself the centre of attraction for Moby's Dick.
