If you were buying a new boat would you look purely at the boat or would you discount it if it was made by a certain manufacturer. Here's my list of manufacturers whose boats I'd buy and whose boats I wouldn't:-

Yes please.....

Fairline: Of course.

Princess: Without hesitation.

Sealine: Yep, except C39 (too weird/expensive)

Sunseeker: Camargues and Portofinos yes, the rest no (date too quickly). SWMBO says no way (due to dodgy Peter Stringfellow image)

BMB: Yes for a sub 34 footer. Decent quality product at a good price even if interiors are a bit wooden. Take a look at new 25. Big UK dealer network.

Cranchi: Excellent value. Handful of dealers in UK.

Jeanneau: Yes, particularly the new 34 open.

Broom: As I'm a young man it would need a blue hull to make it appeal to me. 345 OS not too old fogeyish. However, SWMBO dislikes the dark woods so would veto it.

Windy: The dogs whatsits (just check out the 58 Zephyros).

Nimbus: Yes for a day boat. Otherwise no.

SeaRay: Yes for sub 30 footer. I'd be worried that anything bigger would be hard to shift in UK.

No thanks.....

Birchwood: The Rover of the seas.

Beneteau: Styling a bit too dowdy. Poor reviews.

Rodman, Galeon: Who?

Chris Craft: Quality product and decent retro styling but perhaps a little too retro.

Pearl: Bit too niche for me.

Bayliner: Getting better but I couldn't stand the ribbing.

Maxum/Regal/Glastron: Too American.

Targa: Err, no thanks.

Pershing: Too trendy.

Atlantis/Gobbi: Bit too rare in the UK.

Fiart: Sounds like a cross between Fiat and Fart. Dealer still trying to sell his last LBS boats.

Whose boats would you buy?

But would you really, really, really, reach (far) under the mattress and buy one with your own hard earned dosh? Or would you get cold feet and buy another Fairline instead?

Aqua Star, Seaward, any Nelson, Storeboro, definitely Fleming (along with Deleted User still waiting for Santa Claus to drop one down my chimney!) etc etc.

Sunseeker - NO - totally naff image and sport ones look old fashioned ( note, not classic just old)

Princess - NO- Trying too hard to gain the image of a Marriot hotel that floats, thats bad on so many levels!

Fairline - NO- far too common although slightly less of a naff image than Sunseeker.

Sealine - NO- To my mind soap dishes should be left to hold soap and not be used as a design for a range of over priced boats.

BMB - Yes- rare and handles great, no pretentions of granduer

Windy - Yes- up with some of the best handling boats in the world for that reason alone would be worth buying

Cranchi- Maybe- excellent value and shows many manufacturers just how over priced they really are!

Sea Ray - NO- second rate boats sold over here as top rate boats, non descript / bland, not really enough to them to actually find to dislike or like they are just 'there' When I see one the biggest reaction they get from me is a shrug.

Too many 'yes' boats to list but among them would definitly be a Trader - superb! and Formula ( I have to say that though really)

I would move Rodman and Pershing to Yes, please list along with Azimut, Ferretti (especially) and Riva (yummy) and Traders, IMHO, are dreadful

Azimut - nice boats but, purely from a brand perspective, there's no way I'd buy a small one instead of a similar Princess or Fairline.

Riva - also v nice but are you really sure you'd buy one? Most of the new stuff they're flogging now is gonna look a bit daft in a few years.

I wouldnt rule out anything as long as all the criteria fits but the price will or wont affect the type ie not o high on my hit list but too expensive.
