what boats are fun to helm.

Re: What boats are fun to helm?

The ones you own, not borrow or pose on.

With luck they're also ones which have taken you to interesting places, tolerated your mistakes and seen you safely thro dangers.

It's great fun trying to get a Trader to plane...

Interesting that you'd include Tornado Cat, would have to agree, they're pretty special! Slalom windsurfers on waves are in the same category. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Out-drive motor boats are more fun in the handling department but I also know a P67 that turns pretty good doughnuts too. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The Targa 40 does it for me at the mo though, shaft drive mobo's prefer straight lines and slow down a fair bit in tight turns. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

That's hilarious SV! Those beasts just dont want to plane do they? That's perhaps the fuel burn of 5 Targa 40s doing 38knots, yet it's doing 18!

Here's a fun drive - smashing a big Ferretti through a swell (I've posted it before but worth another outing)

...... My little Solitaire (Fairline Sprint) was great fun to helm. .....

as long as you don't let go the steering wheel /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

My alaska is an absolute crack to helm. The wheel is as far forward as it can be (I can touch the bow-roller from the steering position) and it handles like a go kart. Being so far forward means you can read the sea like a book too

If its pure thrill you're after, I have to agree the Zap/Thunder Cat is hard to beat. With no less than 50hp, and one person only, strap yourself in, max. speed in a straight line, then hard cornering. Besides an amusement park ride, nothing hangs on in the corners as well.

Beware! this ride is not for the faint at heart! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Yea, I know. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

But I was just slowing down at this point about to enter the lock at Chichester when this raggy pulled out in front of me.

As I went by I asked him for a light. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: What boats are fun to helm?

Well Powerskipper I have to confess.... I am jealous of all those lovely boats you get to operate, and places you go.

Also I look forward to your stories of accomplishment with deliveries and successful cruises in company.

I dare say those who you instruct are extremely grateful you are skillful in what you do, so you can assist them gain valuable, essential knowledge.

All in all most would regard you as a valuable asset to the boating community. Always bright and positive, and nothing but nice things to say about folk. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I do wonder though, what contribution the cynical, sad people make? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
