What are SeaTalkNG and SeaTalk2 ?

Maybe I'm completely wrong, but I had understood SeaTalk to be based on CAN bus (DeviceNET) and SeaTalkNG to be based on ethernet ? Is that correct ? But what is SeaTalk2 based on ?

Old fashioned Seatalk is not based on anything really, certainly not CAN. It's a bespoke made up protocol with an officially unpublished hardware and software specification. It has be reverse engineered though...

I would expect Raymarauder to be converting to NMEA2000, which is CAN based.

Actually Seatalk NG is a Raymarine derivate of NMEA 2000 which is build on CAN-bus. Seatalk HS is ethernet (100 Mbit) based.
Seatalk is on itself a clever protocol alas a bit slow. It's uses similar tricks as Ethernet and CAN bus (carrier sensing).
I've seen the name Seatalk2 as well but I'm not sure what it is.
 
Seatalk 2 is a five conductor system that has some N2K functionality e.g. some ST2 equipped plotters will display engine data via an N2K interface but little else. If used with all Raymarine gear it has similar topology to N2K and was (is) a bit better than Seatalk.
