Look this is going nowhere, except around in futile and infinite circles. Fanatically hard held blind opinions are like a range rover stuck in the mud - pointless, and annoying. No one is right, all likes and dislikes are valid. We are all entitled to prefer, like or dislike what ever type of boats take our fancy. It's a matter of personal preference. The market over time will demonstrate the majorities preferences as a matter of fact - not right or wrong - just reality. What ever type of boat you have or dream about – just enjoy /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
PS: dont mean to sound like a preacher - don't like cicles
Trawlers are traditionally heavy displacement boats. People like the style of them but want to go faster. In order to move say at 20 knots they become semi planing or (semi displacement whichever way you look at it) with massive engines to get these heavyweights out of the water. I am arguing that it is irresponsible and expensive in todays climate.
There are catamaran versions of a trawler. They are displacement boats like the original trawler concept ie. efficient moving through the water. They are happy moving at 20 knots comfortably using small engines. IMHO there is an arguement that are nearer the original trawler concept than current "fast" monos trawlers.
I was wondering what the forum reaction to this thought would be. Aside from styling which it is up to the designers to solve I have not read anything here that changes my thinking.
I've just read all the previous posts in this thread.
I don't see the point in a "fast trawler" - you can only tow the nets so fast. Mebbe you can overtake the fish and catch them unawares from the opposite direction.
