WHAT AM I DOING WRONG ??

A lot of the time this is simply a reliance on the windex or wind instrument which is not aligned correctly.
Check that too.. often one tries to make the same angle as was achieved on the other tack and cant, but its the readout thats wrong.
Might be something else entirely, but I have seen this many times.

Actually you are also wrong that offset ballast will always show up in static trim. Modern boats with very soft bilge lines are extremely "stiff" when static and will not necessarily show a slight offset in ballast. However any weight offset will severely affect the sailing trim because the effect of an offset weight will have twice the effect of the mass involved as it is added on one tack and taken away on the other effectively. This is exactly the principle that ocean racing yachts with movable water ballast rely on. This is a very light 21ft boat and has very flat dinghy like bottom lines and even a slight trim difference will have a large effect. I therefore think my original point was valid. It is only one possible cause however and all the other suggestions are equally valid. And if I had a 10 degree list when static I would want to do something about it. 10 degrees is huge!

Gee Thats an awful lot of information.
Guess I'm going to have a busy weekend.
Try the mast measurements first.
Then look at the rudder ( probably later in the year now /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif)
See what happens.

Sure I can.
It is called a lepe 21.
It was designed by John Butler, and I believe moulded by Offshore.
They are pretty thin on the ground though.
Not too much information can be found.
I did contact John Butler who suggested 32mm/meter rake.
So try this first.

So, no fund of knowledge. Altering the rake isn't going to effect your problem much though.
My last boat had a similar discrepancy, but I didn't worry about it. It was still a lot quicker than my previous boat, whatever tack. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
