The rib that I have is really not large enough, nor fast/stable enough. The garage I have will only hold a 3.2mtr tender; same problem.

Bathing platform not big/wide enough to carry a tender, nor would I be able to board from the platform as the companionway is in middle.

Watching raggies trail a tender behind theirs, gave me an idea.

Why not buy a 6mtr rib with a big O/B and trail it behind me @30 knts?
That way when I get to where I'm going I'll have a proper tender to play with?

So c'mon someone, please tell me why is this just a stupid idea..... or is it?

Its not a good idea. We chartered a slow mobo in the BVI which towed its tender so have some experience. Every time you go into a marina you're going to have remember to pull the tender in tight to the transom coz its easy to run over the rope when reversing. We did this a couple of times and to make matters worse, when you do foul the tow rope the tender is catapulted into the transom at high speed as the rope winds round the prop. Quite funny really. Then there is the problem of how you stop the thing hitting the transom every time you slow down or stop. I wonder what would happen if you crash stopped from 30knots. Would the tender bury itself in the saloon? Then there is wear and tear on the fittings and the tow rope. I could imagine pulling a cleat out of the boat in a rough sea
Yotties can do this coz they travel at slow speed and generally have non-rigid tenders. If you really want to have a 6m RIB available somebody's gonna have to drive it behind you

I can see the funny side of a boat benig catapaulted into the stern as the rope wind round the prop..

Not though about the lack of brakes either!

Its either another driver or I've gotta get a much much bigger boat!

HLB
as for getting closer to the beach etc... its not the distance thats the problem, its just that a small rib is not really a proper tender. Can't waterski behind a 2.6 or even a 3.2.. little too small and certainly not fast enough

Hi Derf

get a Zapcat(SA) with a 50 you'll get there b4 you left

even with a salom jockey /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

cheers Joe

Yeah, maybe you're right hlb. Best I flog the boat asap and just keep the current tender and I'll use it sparingly. Better still I'll get rid of the O/B and just row the bloody thing!

One day my mate arrived for a days boating with his fletcher speed boat. I hooked it onto the back of my boat and proceeded out for a great days fun. on the way back I opened my boat up to 30 kn. as which point the fletcher caught the wake and flipped upside down and breaking the toe rope. quite exciting actually. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
