In your opinion(s), whats the "normal" expected life of a marine engine and drive chain. Now bearing in mind that all the sevice is followed to the "book" and is generally pampered.
Now all car manufacturers have to make sure that spare parts are stocked for at least 10 years after the end of production of any model. My boat, over there on the left, is a little over 10 years old, well a little and a bit more. I reckon that in general a marine engine probably leads a better life than the car enginge. No long periods of sitting in a traffic jam idleing away with no load on it. No nut case reps late for meetings driving the nuts off it and is generally better looked after than your average car.
Long story short, totaled the out drive gears at the weekend and I've been told by the makers and others, that the parts I need are no longer available. To top it all off, the "Makers" have said that no new drive will couple to the engine. So its a new engine and drive!! One way of selling more units I suppose./forums/images/icons/shocked.gif
OK, to hell with it. Unbolt it and we'll use it as an anchor!
