Took some guests of the absent owner out yesterday on his S48. Thought I'd get there early not having been aboard this boat before, and knowing that, it being a sports cruiser there would be err....a few zips and poppers to sort apart from the usual pre cruise checks. Stuck to just taking fronts covers off and mercifully left the rear canopy in place.

Now the boat went fine, quite impressed, very spacious, bit tall for a SC but thats why the headroom is so good everywhere. Nice large airy cabins.

Got back fairly late and hosed her down. Then started to reassemble the bloomin front cockpit covers. It seemed to take forever, after a while started to loose the will to live....... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I mean you get the top of screen major bit zipped to the insert, can you get the bottom of screen poppers on?.....no way without loosening the zip again. Give my nice fly any day, close the patio doors and walk away ah bliss. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
MY mates Rinker 34 used to be exactly the same.
It would take three people all stretching and pulling to get the damn canopy on the studs.
Mercifully he's now taken the thing to Malta.

erm yes thats what I had to do in the end. Was a hell of a job doing the zip up then. Cant imagine what it would be like for someone elderly with arfritis.

Hi Mark dont suppose your get this as you'll be ont airplane. Wont need your help wiv zips cos I have a sensible boat, I will welcome you aboard in a thrice by just opening the patio door. :~)
 
Absolutely agree with you, SC. I used to fight for ages with the covers on our Targa 48 and it was ten times worse if you had to do it at sea because of weather or spray. Its one of the major drawbacks of sportscruisers IMHO. It amazes me also that you can pay £15k for a convertible car with a natty electric roof that folds itself away and yet you can pay £500k for a sports cruiser and have to battle with rusty zips and badly fitted poppers. The only half decent canopy I've seen has been on some new Brooms which have clips rather than poppers
Flybridge boats rule IMHO
 
Not sure you're quite comparing apples to lemons, or something.

Flybridge in the UK: I regularly see people struggling with flybridge covers and pole thingys, trying to clip canvas sliding whilst stretching and standing on slippy curvy fibreglass. And then have to do the canvas at the back.

Fly in the med: close the patio doors and walk. But what about the flybridge furniture if it rains ?

SC in the UK: Many don't bother messing with the front covers at all, even in summer. The back ones on mine are dead easy to remove. Or buy a tonneau cover.

SC in the med: remove the keys and walk (and re-upholster every 5 yrs), or lose fingernails and temper each time /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
