You did the right thing in not going to Arcachon, you really and especially 1st time want to tackle the entrance in full daylight and ideal conditions. In any significant onshore wind it looks positively frightening and certainly enough so to give your SWMBO a very worrying time of it.

Have been there before in 2004 and just motored straight in once depth gauge proved you can't cut corners so go far south before entering and going north up channel. Biscay was calm though on that occasion.

I think that you were right to miss out Arcachon. With luck, you will have the wind behind you now.

Looks like if the Scuttlebutt rally had been this weekend you still wouldn't have made it. Ah well; have a good trip home.
