champagne breakfast at the marina club and already 25C. I think I'll go and lie down, or shall I give the boat a blast across the bay. Decisions, decisions......
Ha - well it's cold enough over here to give the promise of Cod over the next couple of days so there!
I will try to avoid thinking about you as I sit wrapped up in the swell, with cold hands, and probably no fish either......./forums/images/icons/smile.gif
Must admit skipped the breakfast today, saw the new year in on a friends motoryacht, then to save driving home we kipped on our more humble F36, but didnt get into pit till about 4am I think, so couldnt face breakfast.
A jolly good night it was. Happy New Year Arthur
P.S. shall I take the rib out tomorrow for a dive....? or the F36 for a cruise....? decisions decisions

Well, decided not to go out on boat today, but did go yesterday to refuel at cheapo place ($1.58/US gal petrol)) across bay. Absolutely glorious weather. Now listening to "Sorry I'll read that again," over the web. Nothing like Radio 4 in the US, unfortunately.
Off to St Pete w/friends, across Tampa Bay, for lunch tomorrow. About 60nm round trip. Should be nice.
Don't be fooled by the pleas for sympathy Arthur. Just think how much of a break it is for Tutts and Harry.
The Soltron didn't work then H. ? I'd complain to Dom if I was you.
Seriously, hope you're on the mend./forums/images/icons/smile.gif
Yes, but you have to live in a cultural desert with mosquitos everywhere and alligators wandering around the streets every time it rains hard.
Much more civilised here in the UK and, if we want the heat, we can Easyjet to Spain for twopence halfpenny.
Spain is like Florida without the alligators. You can also swim in Spain. You've got beasts in the Gulf of ....... there which can take your arm off.
You're welcome to it.
Cultural desert possibly, but it depends who you associate with.
Never seen a mosquito where I live. They spray any standing water.
Aligators - you read too many comics
Civilised in the UK???? Where people don't even speak to you in the street for fear of being attacked, where vandalism, break-ins and graffiti are a way of life, with no police to call upon.
Spain is nothing like Florida:
it appears to be always under construction, the kerbs are 3ft above the road, it's full of drunken Brits (I am a Brit), the marinas are packed, the beaches are crowded and the Med is full of shlt. We do have stingrays here, but that's about it.
We've looked at Spain etc as possible places to live, but they don't match Longboat Key, Florida, USA for weather, security, medical care, boating, convenience etc, etc
Cultural desert possibly, but it depends who you associate with and where you live. We also have excellent opera, symphony, theatre and restaurants in Sarasota, only 10 min away. What other "culture" do I need?

Civilised in the UK???? Where people don't even speak to you in the street for fear of being attacked, where litter is everywhere, where vandalism, break-ins and graffiti are a way of life, with no police to call upon, where everyone is dressed in various shades of grey and the place is consumed by whingeing, envy and jealousy of the other guy. And, worst of all, the weather is absolute c%@p.

I love visiting the UK, and I'll always regard England as home, but I couldn't come back to live there. I do miss the beer, and the proximity of the Continent, but that's about it. Having lived in a number of countries I have to admit that it causes one to be unsettled and never finding perfection and it's the same w/the US. It's far from perfect but this is the best of the bunch we know.
BTW, if UK "culture" is exemplified in this form, I grew out of much of that years ago, 'cos I'm old/forums/images/icons/smile.gif
Hmm, "Brett," isn't that American? You should be over here!
Arthur, I am insanely jealous with your description about Florida. You are right about GB - we that have to live here delude ourselves that we have culture. Some of it may be cultured, the rest is cr@p! - and so is the weather, as you rightly point out.
You must be following what is / has been going on over here as your observations are spot on! Here's to you and I'm glad you're enjoying it - all ther best.

"Hmm, "Brett," isn't that American? You should be over here!"
Brett's not American, it's a Celtic name. Anyway, I didn't mean to offend you Arthur, but I have been there. I bought a piece of land north of Clearwater years ago with a view to building on it and living there one day.
After long consideration I decided that Florida actually offered nothing except weather and I sold again. Crime? Have you been to Miami lately? Far worse than London, but we don't all live in London any more than you all live in Miami.
My overall impression of Florida is that it's like God's waiting room in the sunshine. Too hot in the summer. As much crime and social discontent as anywhere else in the world with people insulating themselves from it in gated communities whenever they can.
I'm glad you've found what you want and you clearly enjoy it, but I do get tired of hearing ex pats knocking the UK.
Having said all that, I think I'll retire to France one day.
It was you who started the knocking (of Florida), and I took the bait/forums/images/icons/smile.gif.
Average age on this island = 68; gated community; idyllic if that's what you like, and we do. Yes, God's waiting room, but we all get to that stage some time and we try to make the best of it with the financial resources we have, while staying as fit and healthy as we can.
I wish you well Arthur and I'm sure that where you are is much more pleasant than Brighton is tonight. If I knew how to do these smileys I'd give you a grin. Enjoy yourself.
