Yes a 60 ft er will cost more in the marina than a 30 ft er.

Well based on previous threads on 'newbie boat buying suggestions' the first thing you need to do is buy an Oppie and join a sailing club.

If you miss the step you'll never be as good as those that have got wet capsizing during their learning curve.

After that, I'd suggest buying either a wooden or steel half completed home built project...lots of bargains out there.

If you have aspirations to sail to Timbuktu your only choice of vessel is an origami steel boat. A plastic boat for such an enterprise will be dangerous. I could put you in touch with an accredited designer, if you wish?

I'm also concerned about your lack of qualification. I think you'll need an ICC with CEVNI endorsement for inland waterways.

You could ask in the Motorboat Forum, as that's their starter boat length. You're probably over-qualified, though.
