Wet & Dry for Random Orbit Sander?

Can the disks you buy from B&Q be used wet or dry? I spoke to someone in the store and they suggested not, i'm sanding the topsides, also can't find 400 grade disks anywhere.

Will I have to use sanding blocks and elbow grease?

What is the benefit of wet over dry?

Go to your local automotive paint shop factors you’ll get any grade you want right up to 1500

I've never seen them, but others may be able to point you in the right direction. I've always assumed that it's because water and electricity are best kept apart.

Wet & Dry paper lasts longer because it doesn't clog (well, not so much). I think that wet and dry is also available in finer grits; I've got some 1400 wet & dry.

If I were sanding topsides I would start with a coarser grit than 400, but I don't know what job you are doing.

I agree, i'm using 180 grit at the moment, dry for the sanding of the old coat and between the 3 coats of undercoat (i'm going from dark blue to white)

I just know eventually i'll need the 400 grit before and between the final coat of Toplac

These are the "velcro" backed dics?

I can see them up to 240 grit, but not wet and dry, from Screwfix

Can you use one of these machines wet?

BTW read the Product data sheet if you have not aready done so.

Yes, thats exactly my question, i too can only see 240 grit, i winder if the car ones have the velcro backing or are just sheets.

Try www.axminster.co.uk or www.rutlands.co.uk for hook & loop sanding discs. I've not heard of wet & dry discs for random orbit sanders even for the air powered models.

I use sheets of wet&dry (no velco/hook'n'loop backing) on a air driven "jitterbug" sander. Easy to control teh speed and with pump up sprayer it is easy t keep the work wet and clean. Being air powered there is no danger of a 240v shock.
