We have had some time off this year end we went cruising to Western France. We were south of Brest for three months and in all that time we met only three other British flagged motor boats - one in Sauzon, Belle Isle, one at Port Haliguen, Quiberon and one at Auray, Golfe du Morbihan. There were lots of British yachts and yet it's the motorboats that can get down there in double quick time. (We did Morbihan to Lezardrieux in two comfortable days). So why no motorboats south of Brest? Where were you all?

lazing around Poole in near 100 degree heat with cold beers, good company and a dwindling supply of disposable bbqs

I do however fancy doing the same in the Gulf of Morbihan area for a couple of weeks next August........

I agree with you. We made it as far as Ile d'Yeu one year and saw no Brit mobo's at all. I think what puts people off is the cost of fuel in France. Paying the best part of £1000 to fill the tanks is a bit eye watering

Yes true enough, filling up the tanks is like putting your hand on the fire grate - but then £1k of fuel would get you from Guernsey to Morbihan and back easily - so it's not such a lot when compared to buying flights for the family to Jo'bug and back or something comparable for the alternative hols. And you have no hotel bill on your boat........! (yes I know the entire economics argument is flawed in pleasure boating but one has to try!)

We were going to go down to some where around Bell isle, this year. But went to the scilly Isles instead. Probably some thing to do with remembering other years when we got holed up for days on end. Tuther thing is, that after covering miles and miles of sea. I cant find anything much better than Devon and Cornwall. So become lazy, Oh yes. The fuel cost dont help either!!l

Dead right, Haydn. There is nowhere in France that compares with Devon, Cornwall and the Scillies although I would add Dorset as well
