Yeah looks like a nice cruise for a novice to gain some experience sailing in company, Tonybearbones and myself plan to lock out at at 012.00 from cardiff but i will wait for others who would like to catch up just call Gallipette (yeah sorry it's french] on16 when you are ready to go and i'm sure there will be many othrrs.
 
Great, Louise and I are tied up again this weekend, and everybody else is out sailing.

Guess i could take speed boat. Just worked out that providing it is milpond should take 15mins. Dunno what swmbo will say about fuel cost though.

GUIDANCE ON THE USE OF GATE STARTS

It ensures that the committee boat starts at the same time as the rest of the fleet and its crew does not have to worry about raising an anchor and sails before starting. In addition, it eliminates the contentious subject of the time allowance claimed by OOD's getting their boats away after starting a race.

The committee boat will not anchor before the start, but will sail, fully rigged, in the vicinity of the starting point, but on the port hand side of the course, furthest from the first mark. The OOD will signal the 5, 4 and 1 minute warnings as usual. As the start time approaches the committee boat should be on port tack with the aim of passing close by the starting mark, which will be left to port. The committee boat should pass the mark as the starting signal is given or soon afterwards and continue, close hauled, on port tack until rest of the fleet has started.

If necessary, the committee boat can use her engine to reach the mark in time but must switch it off as she passes it by.


Before the start, the rest of the fleet will congregate on the starboard side of the course, to starboard of the committee boat's anticipated track. As the latter proceeds, competing boats start by sailing, on starboard tack, across an imaginary line between the stern of the committee boat and the Starting Mark. The committee boat has all rights over all other competitors, even though she is on a port tack until the starting procedure is complete. Hindering the progress of the committee during the starting procedure will result in disqualification.

Any boat finding herself on the 'wrong' side of the committee boat's path at the starting gun will be considered to have made a false start. To rectify this she should go round the Starting Mark to port before proceeding.

Once the OOD considers that all competitors have had a reasonable opportunity to start he should give one more sound signal to indicate that the starting procedure is complete. At this point he/she will be subject to the normal racing rules.

Competitors arriving late for the starting signal can start their race by passing the starting mark to port and proceeding to the 1st mark as usual.
Kindly note that the committee boat's start is not delayed under this procedure. Believe it or not, we went to a Christmas party. Agreed to give a mate a hand at the weekend and got roped in to their office Christmas party, sounds odd, but the majority of his staff are summer only workers, and teh season ends about now, so they have their party early.

Anyway, very nice it was, although the weather is St Davids was, I think unusual. Heay rain and Gales from Friday night to Sat afternoon, then thick fog this morning. I watched the Scarlets rugby yesterday and could not believe it was blue skies 3 odd miles away.
 
Had a great couple of hours out this afternoon, got the 4pm lock out and headed off round the Holms. Really was a nice buzz about.

Did anyone see the ski racers out practising again this afternoon ? Have to admit that looks a bit mental, I opened the taps at one point and the one of them still came past, even though I was doing nearly 50mph at the time /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I'm not so sure it's such a good idea they're coming in so close to shore when the dingy's of penarth yacht club are milling about though /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
 
Are you back in Chris? I popped past and saw Rose in the compound on THursday night, but there was nobody about.

Hi Martin, yes we are back in,new prop shaft an all now the boat is all sorted i have nothing to worry about which i dont like /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif, enjoying some of the best weather of the year over the weekend and had some freinds from oz out on the water on sunday, they couldnt belive the weather or how beautiful cardiff is. now i wonder if that puff of smoke from the engine when i started it up is normal, mmmmmm. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
Great stuff, get out and enjoy. We're hoping to do a bit this weekend and next week, weather permitting.
