I was unsure if I should post or not but there was a "stolen" Westerly "Toa" from Weymouth that was all over social media a few days ago. Something seemed a bit odd about who actually owned the boat, with a picture of a chap who was the apparent thief but later people had dig up pictures he had posted with the boat from 2-3 years back and locals saying they have seen police arresting people on the boat previously?!

It looks like the person who said it was stolen has pulled his post.

Does anyone know the story behind it or if it was found?

I saw the same story shared by YM on FB and wondered if there was some missing info. I hope someone can provide the full back story.

My wife and I went through the bridge at Weymouth with 'Tao' on Saturday morning so have been following this story with interest. We commented at the time that it was strange that the skipper wasn't wearing an oilskin in heavy rain and seemed pretty incompetent in his boat handling. The original post on facebook appeared on the Westerly Owners FB group and one comment contained the following -

The man in the photo is Ade Rumbold. "Tao" is owned by a lady called Helen who lives in Weymouth. Joe is her son. Joe let Ade stay on the boat but he refused to move off and did not pay any rent. Weymouth Marina got narked off with Helen. Ade apparently stole the boat and sailed the Westerly 33 out of Weymouth through the lifting bridge on Saturday morning. Apparently the yacht has been spotted up Poole Harbour near to Whareham.

Thanks for the post, that's a lot more information then family members were saying. If Joe had said that in his post it may have stopped all the bad comments/suspicions on why there were photo's posted of the boat from the man that took her.

There was a picture of an invoice for the boat so I assume there's still more to it then has been said.

But Ade also posted photos of Tao on the westerly face ook page a couple of years ago and commented on several posts about the improvements he was making to 'his' boat... has he been living on board the whole tim
