I'm going to antifoul my recently puchased Storm soon and I've calculated the wetted hull area as about 25 square meters.

Can anyone tell me if this is close to the mark or know how much antifoul is needed /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

3.5 litres does sound about right. We used to do my friend's Berwick with 2.5 litres by brush but I did not think I was going to manage it with a roller last time I did it for him but did just make it. Thats just for one coat.

I anti fouled our Storm in Majorca earlier this year and used two 2.5 litre tins of International Optima two pack. Pricey stuff but we have found it works well across a range of conditions. The only trouble is that once you have mixed in the activator, the pot life is pretty short, so I use what's left to apply to the vulnerable areas such as the leading edges and waterline. The other problem ( Oh dear, not doing a good selling job here!) is that the International stuff is water based so it's no good filling in the patches left by the cradle just before launch because it just washes off. Blakes Ocean Performer is also a two pack, but is not water based and has a mixed pot life of about two days at UK Autumn / Winter temperatures. It is also a bit cheaper.
If you haven't done so already, sign up for the Westerly Owners Club, a great organisation.

You're unlikely to sell the boat in the first season, and anti foul prices only go one way - up. So dont worry. Just buy more than enough and use whats left over next year.

P.S. The idea of buying what is cheapest each year doesnt work - a statement made after extensive testing!.. You end up with a patchwork boat and sooner or later some incompatible anti fouls. So best use the same brand / colour each year anyway.

The previous owner of ours always alternated between dark and light blue so he could see if the erroding antifouling was to thin during the next lift out. Sounds a good idea which we will continue.

A belated thanks to everyone for your advice, I did reply previously but it got lost...

Nigel, I spoke to Paul who kindly showed me around More Madness recently.
