Westerly Pageant … hole in mast.

Any idea what this was? Would you worry about it? It doesn’t exactly strengthen the mast

Something to do with an old through mast roller reefing system ??

Pop rivet a little aluminium plate over it and forget it.

This clip from a picture on the Westerly Wiki explains it I think

The boom is quite low and the roller reefing handle stows upwards. I think you will find some screw holes about a foot or so higher up where the handle locked into place .

The boom is now just below the winch which explains everything.
