Ive sold Goldeneye, a Moody 31, and am looking at the Westerly Oceanquest, a 35 centre cockpit from the mid 1990's.

Has any poster had any experience of the Oceanquest? How do they compare with the Moody 35 CC?

I hate to say it as some one who is on his 3rd Moody that the Oceanquest is better than the Moody35. It sails better and has a better layout down below. The Moody 35 was not a very good replacement for the evergreen 346. If the Oceanquest has teak decks have a very close look!!! good hunting

PS have you thought about a Moody336, I had one for 11 seasons and it was great. YM did a second look test published in Oct or Nov 2000....

Not sure but a friend who had one had to have all the teak replaced at great cost, the Oceanquest is basically a remodelled SeaHawk, I duck for saying that but...The Moody 36 that replaced the 35 is a lot better both in sailing performance and layout belowdecks. I still reckon you should look at a 336 sails well good accomodation, I have met a few ex 31 owners who have replaced withg a 336 and seemed well pleased.

good luck, nice time of year to be buying

Jeremy, Its not the best looking boat Westerly produced; its not got the length to balance the high centre cockpit. Have you considered looking at an older boat ie. the Corsair or possibly the Oceanranger they look a lot better. Anyway beauty is in the eye of the beholder !
Good luck in finding what you want.

Hi jeremy,

Is your boat at Port Solent? If so saw her the other day as I was buying the corsair "Moonshine". We looked at an Oceanquest but are going long distance and felt the corsair had a better layout. However there is a good oceanquest with William smithells in Shampton for a very good price, 1995 I think.
Almost a day after I paid my deposit I have found out due to a cock up that I need to stay at p.solent thru April, but they want 500 quid!!!! Has anyone got a berth for a reasonable rate for April?

Thanks

John

Im going to have a look tomorrow. It will have to be spectacular to persuade me not to buy continental and new. A french dealer is offereing brand new Bav 36, kitted out for £61k incl VAT

Plus, some dogey VAT reduction scheme. Basically 1/2 price VAT, if kitted out with ocean safety pack. Has anyone heard of this scheme? Looking at the web, I note that it also exists for 100% VAT free in Holland, but I've never heard of it before

Seahawk....

Trial-sailed one in mid-80s. Felt very strange. Seemed like you were perched on top of it, rather than safely cossetted in a centre cockpit. Huge ladder down into accommodation. Bought a Corsair instead - much nicer boat.
