Does somebody know this boat, how is she if you compare with a Storm 33.I have seen they can have problems with the mast which seem to be quite difficult to tune

Edit: Blimey how many boats did Westerly make with 'Ocean' in the title - which one are you referring to /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi - the were a number of issues with the rigging of Westerly Yachts, namely the lower shrouds, where an uncranked Ubolt was used. I am not sure if the 33 Ocean was amonst these, but looking at the photos below, you can soon determine if it has. There is a new warning out for Oceanlords now, saying that the cranked ones - which substited the pld uncranked ones, are themselves prone to fatigue.

So yes - look at the Westerly Owners site - there is plenty of info on it. But all the surveyors will be well aware, and the problem can certainly be remedied with a new chain plate design. You should be able to deduct this from the purchase price, so do NOT be put off, they are otherwise Very sound boats. These are available from Trafalgar yacht services

The following photo illustrate the nature of the problem. Pulling on the Ubolt even if cranked in line with the shroud, still causes stress to the bolt. I have to replace mine!

Its on the WOA site that I find there is some problems with the mast panting

This relates to the lower shrouds - if not set up tight enough, will allow the mast to pant, and the subsequent damage to the ubolts. Most boats mast will pant if the rig is not set up properly, and it leads to high snatch loads on the fittings with the failure of the fitting - it is not unique to Westerly.

Yes, there was a thread on here recently about compression issues in the rigs (I believe). Nothing to do with u bolts or the boat per se, more to do with the rig spec if I remember correctly. If you do a search you should find the threads, several W33 Ocean owners pitched in I think
