There are 7 Samantha's coming up in the search box of ITU.int, UK - G, and two are "pl yt", one at 3.5tons.

Without more information - callsign, mmsi, etc - there is no more to go on.

Several threads on this subject, although an old one, this seems the most relevant.

See pic below.

The boat was built in Hamble at Fairey Marine, she was advertised 3 times over the years as a 1986 boat.

I think the numbers mean, that in 1979, a young lad on a bicycle rode from Fairey to the Southampton Lloyd's office to register the hull and that she was the 100th boat registered in that office in 1979. That correct?

I also think this means that she was built to Lloyd's 100A1 rules?

Is there likely to be an online record of her? Or do I have to go to a reference library?

That mould mark is for the Lloyds Register of Shipping on their Certificate of Hull Construction. The SOU refers to the Southampton office that issued it. The 0100 would be the number of the certificate. The certificate would have the date of inspection and the date of issue. I think you are correct in assuming 79 is the year of issue. My Fulmar Certificate of Hull Construction has a number of SOU 00633 and that was issued in April 1980. It is quite possible the Lloyds Certificate of Hull Construction was only started being issued in 1979.

Thanks Roger.

Does that mean somewhere I can find a copy of what was registered?

Ben. There should be a record somewhere. However being on a paper system it may be more difficult to check. I am no expert but see if Lloyds still have a Southampton office. Best of luck.

They do; in fact their main office is now in Southampton. But possibly their archives department in Fenchurch Street might be able to help.
