Westerly centaur engine replacement

Very interesting Anona! This means that the ratio of the MS gear coupled to the MD 2B is 1.87:1, whereas I had read 1:1. Do you think that the speed of the MS2B is the same forward and backward because if your data is correct then this could be a reason for the speed loss. Also, does anyone know if the MD2B propeller turns left or right?
Thanks for your answer

You may find this useful fybmarine.co.uk/pdf/Gearbox-oil-quantity-type.pdf as it shows the ratios for all the Volvo gearboxes. I can see that the MSB was available with 1:1 but as you can see here capkarate.free.fr/divers/documentation/Moteurs%20Inbooard/VOLVO/MD2B/MD2B%20ViewFile.pdf it is not shown as fitted to the MD2B engine. The table does not show what the reverse ratio is, but from memory when I was looking at these boxes in the pst, the reverse ratio was the same as the forward except with the 3:1 option on the MS2B.

Pretty sure all Volvo propeller are RH with these gearboxes. You should be able to check the ratio by looking on the plate on the top of the gearbox casing. Also the propeller size should be stamped on the hub between the blades.

Okay Tranona I had read the first document as well but the second one actually shows the RB gear ratio which is roughly that of the MSB. In this case my propeller should work within a few horsepower more. I'm going to do some more tests but the last ones were not convincing. I'll keep you informed
Thanks
