Hi, I'm posting on here to ask if anyone has experience of the Westerbeke 8KW Generator-the older-2007/8 White painted one.

I managed to win one on ebay in working order at a good price and I am renovating it. It came from a working boat and has no sound box. It will be used at anchor or while on a mooring when no shorepower is available. We spend 4 or 5 months on the boat cruising each summer. The boat-a stick and rag motorsailer-has a dedicated generator garage alongside, but separate to, the main engine.

My questions are:-

1. Will a sound box be required or will the noise be acceptable for a couple of hours a day. We dont have airconditioning, so hot water, fridge/freezer, microwave and battery charging only, in the UK.

2. I feel it would be benificial to mount the electric fuel pump and fuel filter away from their OE positions on the generator for ease of service. Any drawbacks to this idea.

3. I have an older Lifeline 110AH battery in really good condition-it started the Yanmar main engine with no problems. I would prefer to use this and buy another Lifeline for the house bank, which was new in May this year.

Also any tips generator users can come up with. We have used a Kipor suitcase genny for the last 4 years but dislike petrol on the boat, the exhaust fumes and high noise, but like the electricity provided. Diesel seems to be the answer, especially at 1500RPM, but we have no experience with one.

In anticipation, thanks.
