This year was for various reasons going to be a bit different for us... short time, daughter of to University, boyfriend coming onboard and two additional 17 year olds coming onboard later for a 5 day residential ... amongst others going on in our life, so it was going to be limited area covered, places we needed to be on set times etc.

I have reduced the resolution on the pictures due to the volume, so still hope they do give some impression of what is “up here”... but it has to be in a number of instalments as only 4 images are allowed in each post....

Anyway, with mixed weather forecast, we set off along the Morray Firth towards the Caledonian Canal, and ended up leaving the boat in Inverness for a couple of days before the journey through the canal towards the West.

Have not got many pictures through the canal as I wrapped up a fair bit of business during the journey, so pictures starts at the end of Neptune’s Staircase and goes on a bit... so sorry if it is too boring..

TBC..

.... arriving at Tobermory needs to be timed so that yachts have left, but have not had time to ”get there” yet ... so early afternoon is best if you wish to pick up a mooring.... Otherwise, there is plenty of space for anchoring and good holding ground....

Then a boat I recognised from this forum gently and elegantly slid in later that evening...

.... and of course, I did have to say hello to Annan who showed me the immaculate vessel that she is..... Un-fortunately, I had to move away far too early, so did became a short, but very pleasant meeting indeed....

Our journey followed on back to Oban to pick up the girls for the residential and headed towards the Caledonian Canal again, with a lovely stop at Port Appin for a meal... (Great meal, but due to ferries, I do not recommend an overnight stay .... go a bit further in to Linnhe Marina on the inside of Shuna instead)

Where we met some of the local wildlife (10 of them playing around us, but not many successful photographs), which was a wonderful experience for the girls who had never seen anything like this so close before...

.. as the wind was increasing from SE, we pulled in to Whitehills for a meal and to see if the wind died down later....

... which it eventually did, at 23:00 ... which led to an eventless night journey round Rattray Head.

Loads of things going on between, such as new crew, people in the water, bursting water pipes etc.... but those are other stories to be told in other circumstances...

Many thanks Divemaster1. My stepdaughter and her boyfriend have a yacht moored near Plockton and they constantly rave about the W Scotland cruising area (except for the midges and the weather, of course!)

Great post - thanks for taking the time - I know it takes a long time to do these posts - thanks.

Shame that you had to put into so many different posts - YBW please note - please lift the 4 pics per post limit - I for one have some posts like this that I'd like to put up but cant be bothered to start a new post after each set of 4.

Dan - please.....

Great post, the Caley canal is where I started boating, had our own boat on the south coast for years but we still go back, in fact I booked a week with Caley Cruisers yesterday for the 2nd week in October, going with my sis and family to introduce the kids to boating. Can't wait!
