There was some talk of a wee swally in mid-February. It appears that I'll be stationed in Glasgow during the latter half of w/e Sat 24th.

How about Friday evening, the 23rd? Venue?

An after work drinkie-poo sounds fine on the Friday, but it'll be busy. My preference is the Horseshoe Bar in Drury Street. The other suggestion was the Counting House - the beer's cheap, but it's a Wetherspoon's pub with all the usual lack of atmosphere and short-staffing that are associated with the brand. IMHO of course. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The Horseshoe was fine on our recent trial run....

The "Counting House" it would have to be for me.......a great old Scottish building full of atmosphere........well it would be when full of us old buggers!!!the best beer around at £1.68 per pint.....tried most other places but I always return to the CH

Paul.

I don't get to Glasgow very often these days but the Horseshoe was always busy on a Friday night. What's the Bon Accord like now?

Bon Accord is still a good pub - as is The State.

Might be able to make the 23rd

Donald

OK - for the avoidance of multi-lateral circular arguments it's the Bon Accord on Friday 23rd February at 1800-1830. Make your mark here.

The State - my god - used to bunk off from the high school in there with jacket folded inside out and draped casually over the arm. They weren't nearly as tolerant of under-age drinkers as the Whistle though.

Alrighty. Where do I sign?

It was either the Rubiyat (sp?) or the Curlers for me in skool days.......

Jimi. Don't believe you! Surely getting thrown out of the Bon Accord is near nigh impossible?

Think it was throwing up over the bar that did it! Mind you it was in the days of 10'o clock closing .. my local then was the Halt

Reminds me of high school. The odd lunchtime we would frequent the local. Chip butty 10p, pint of Harp lager 23p. One day a policeman comes in and seeing us, walks over.

"You lads from the school"? "Yes" we reply. He eyes the glasses on the table, which are clearly not lemonade. "What are you drinking?" Quick as a flash my mate says "Thats very kind of you, half of lager please". The rest is history.

I've heard on good authority that it must have been vertical vomit then.. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well would you credit it? It now appears that I'm going to be based in Glasgow for the latter half of next week rather than the one after. Not being one to pass up half an excuse for a drink, however, I'll be there on the 23rd anyway.
