I have been granted leave this coming Saturday/Sunday and thought Saturday spent pootling about the Blackwater, overnight on a bouy at West Mersea (launch needed to get 7 stone guide dog ashore), and pootle back to Maldon Sunday morning.

Not a lot of wind forecast but good opportunity to practice actually sailing the floating motor home rather than motoring.

Locals opinion sought regarding moorings, are they busy this time of year? Happy being out in the quarters rather than threading our way down the trots.

Good point. Just looked and it stops at 18:30 at this time of year. Rats, might have to try getting the big lump down into the dinghy:( Getting him back onto the boat, in the dark, does not fill me with happy anticipation.

Lot of free board on a Colvic Watson!

Anyone any ideas about mooring availability this time of year? Mind you, if I have to use the dinghy then Pyefleet or Osea are possible. Or Brightlingsea?

If you are talking about coming ashore in the evening there is unlikely to be anybody about around the hammerhead, so I would just tie up, and be prepared to move in the unlikely event of being in the way

It's probably fine as you'll be there just after neaps, but there's not an awful lot of depth off the hammerhead at low water. I don't know what you draw but just bear it in mind. You'll also want to rig your fenders high.
