Anyone interested in meeting for beers and/or W.Country rally planning meeting in Cornwall or nearby parts of England?

I never realised there were any parts of England near Cornwall !
Yes - I would love to meet you - I have enjoyed and benefitted from your postings over the last couple of years.
I am just South of Bristol - but prepared to travel.

Yes please, as long as you don't mind a "forum youngster" coming along. ANy thoughts of where as beers would involve sleeping somewhere.

Spaniard?

Good idea.

I'd suggest the Crooker Spaniard in Cargreen except it sounds a bitdog-in-the-manger as it's my local. Also I can't offer beds at the moment cos the cottage is being pulled apart

<England near Cornwall>

a neighbour has a sticker on the back of his car - it's an outline of cornwall and says 'i had a nightmare - i dreamed i was born english'. on the local radio yesterday a woman from cornwall was moaning about the english coming down and blocking our roads.

i was firmly put in my place recently when discussing what makes you 'cornish'. some say you must be born here, some that your parents should be but one guy said 3 or 4 generations.

Hmmm. Good to know that Xenophobia is alive and well in Cornwall, as well as in Wales.

Ice cream becomes Cornish when it's had a couple of artificial colourings and flavour enhancers added to it. Have you tried this? /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Count us in - Crooked Spaniards is ok - can't come by boat as its out of the water - engine is in bits in the garage, no steering gear; that's in bits as well.... but we could come by dinghy or drive round. Otherwise anywhere within striking distance of Plymouth sounds good.

Please can it be just after Christmas - I am away from next Tuesday until 27 Dec.

I'd love to be there if only to buy Snow Leopard a drink for a rapid response to my message earlier today - many Thanks for that! sadly kinsale is a bit far for the RIB and the owner won't let me take his yacht!
If a Siamese cat born in London is still a Siamese then a Cornishman born anywhere is still a Cornishman - with a name like mine I should know!! Try spelling it over the 'phone every day!
have a good evening

Since I live 5 minutes walk from the Spaniards would you like me to check whether they have any other events booked for 17th/18th. (They often have wedding parties on Saturdays)

Somebody tried to have a similar at Cargreen last Christmas and was very disappointed when only about two turned up. I hope it goes better for you this time. I will try to be there, but I cannot promise anything at the moment.
As for being Cornish, a leading Cornishman said at the last census you could put yourself down as being Cornish if you a) live in the Duchy, and b) contribute something to Cornwall and have Cornwall's interests at heart. Sounds pretty wide ranging, but I tend to agree with him. It's the "incomers" who arrive here, do nothing for the county and then start to tell us how to live our lives that cause all the trouble.
We are fuming at the moment at the latest interference from central government. Apparently we need planning permission to fly the Cornish flag (St Piran's Cross)! Outrageous.

Snag-ette

The 12th sounds good.

Just one possible fly in this jar of ointment is that I was in the Spaniard last night (drinking cider cos there was no beer for the third night running) and heard that the Manager has resigned. The talk is that the owner is going to close the pub until after Christmas because of the difficulty of getting staff (what a way to run a pub). But the word on the street is that it won't be closing until the 15th so we will be all right. I will keep on the case and and post any news.

Re: Snag-ette

Now there's a surprise, three nights without beer. As you say, what a way to run a pub.

Such a shame because the location is unbeatable. maybe one day....

Should be able to make the 12th for a swift half or two.
