What do you know as Wizard's Pool? I have been up the Lynher as far as St German's Quay many times but I've never heard of that one. The best sheltered anchorage in deep water (5.1m) is at Dandy Hole opposite the delightfully named Wacker Quay. Other anchorages (see chart 871) are at Sandacre, SW of Anthony Passage and SE of Ince Castle.
Any forum-ites venturing up the Tamar at the weekends are welcome at Cotehele Quay and can visit me in the National Trust information centre in Shamrock's Boatshed in the afternoons. There is a tea shop, ice cream kiosk and loos available on the Quay. Sorry, no supermarkets, tho'
You can go alongside the quay with the hand operated crane, but keep clear of the ferry landing stage. You can also use Shamrock's mooring (opposite her dock) for an hour or two. No fees, but donations in the maritime museum's collection box are always welcomed.
Whoops !!! /forums/images/icons/blush.gif - humble apologies dear readers. A "Senior Moment" as it was indeed Dandy Hole that I meant - brain had wandered off to the West Coast of Scotland.
My Chart 871 shows it to have 19m clearance above MHWS and it is in fact about half a mile BEFORE you get to Cargreen crossing from Weir Point on the Cornwall bank to just north of Lime Point on the English shore. It was still there last week when I sent a Saltash SC racing fleet up river! I will look again tonight.
Not many of our yachts have masts of 63 feet above the water line!
There is, of course, another one just before you get to Weir Quay, and that has 16m clearance, unless they have lifted it a metre recently. That's still one heck of a mast height at 53 feet, ain't it?
Ouch NO! Our mast is 50'4" and 55'2" over the aerials. That is the mast height above the deck too not the clearance required which needs to include the waterline to mastbase height.

.........and what's your draft? If you are venturing into the waters where these cables are you will need plenty of height of tide so perhaps you should do your calculations very carefully! We don't see many yachts up river with such tall masts 'cos they are usually too deep drafted
19m wont be bothering me, unless I get rich before the hols and then I suppose you are going to tell me that there aint the depth to take the accompanying keel.
