I am planning to go from Kip/Lamlash Friday night then Gigha probably on Saturday. After that? Don't know yet. This is my first venture up the West Coast and plan to use my 2 weeks to cruise around and visit the places most yachts tend to go, in particular if they have serviced moorings or pontoons. I am slightly concerned about the 2.3m draft on our boat. Is there any of the "usual" places that I should avoid with 2.3m draft? As always I appreciate any advice given.

It's all deep as a deep thing in these parts - we usually panic at 5m.

There is nowhere that 'most yachts go' that will cause you a problem provided you have charts and a good pilot book.

If you're off to Gigha, stay on the middle/outer moorings. We were on the inner ones, with 0.9m under the keel (we draw 1.5m), and not totally convinced the reading was accurate. Other than that, enjoy /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

... and similarly in Craighouse Jura. Moorings are fine but inshore of them might be a bit shallow >3m. Craighouse and Ardminish Bay (Gigha) have very small tidal rises (flows are something else) so you don't need much under you.

Watch out for pot bouys on the east side of Gigha. It's the only place I have ever picked one up but I got two in about an hour a few years ago.

Dont worry about the depths.
Lovely scenery, some great places to visit, Puildobhran, or should I say Puldoran, is a lovely anchorage, just be wary of some of the folk now living in that area!!!!!!
Have a good trip and dont get Dorus mor or Fladda light on the wrong tides.
