Other half and I are taking the boat to the west coast for 2 weeks for a honeymoon. As much a she loves the boat and sailing, does anyone know of a really nice hotel that its possible to moor next to for a night? We are starting off at Dunstaffinage either way to Iona, down to Islay and back up through the canal to Inverness. Anybody got any ideas?

Thanks, Fin

Good suggestion is the Pier House at Port Appin just about 5 miles north of Dunstaffnage. Excellent accommodation, views to die for and moorings outside. Food is superb, especially the seafood. Phone number is 01631 730 302

PS. I have no connection with the Pier House other than my wife and I had a wonderful weekend there just a few weeks ago.

Enjoy

The Loch Melfort Hotel at Arduaine (North of Craobh Haven) is very nice with good food and free moorings. There is the Crinan Hotel (although this always seems v expensive to me), The Jura Hotel at Craighouse (visitors moorings in the bay and also good food) and the Gigha Hotel on (surprise) the Isle of Gigha (also with visitors moorings). The new Boathouse restaurant on Gigha (just up from the pontoons at Ardminish) is excellent.

Have a good trip and a happy honeymoon.

Have never been a fan of Crinan I have to say - very over priced and very poor service in terms of stuffiness and lack of welcoming approach

Loch Melfort definitely better, Manor House in Oban has good food, the Holly Tree at Kentallen is a bit further north but I have read good things about it although have not been. Two hotels in Appin of course

There is of course the Isle of Eriskay but that is certainly pricey!

Not wishing to be vague but the other half and I have been looking too for a nice west coast hotel for a Winter break for years and having been to a few, we feel we are still looking for the really nice one (without bankrupting us)

Have a great cruise!

My wife and I are just back from a few days at Loch Melfort Hotel and I can thoroughly recommend it. Accomodation is good, food is great, and the views down Loch Melfort are stunning - even, dare I say it, romantic! Jura and Islay are just visible in the distance, and Croahb Haven is visible just across the bay. Hotel has four free moorings. Lovely cruising area too. The hotel sometimes does two for the price of one deals too - worth asking.
Happy honeymoon and good sailing!
