Howard (Zippy), Paul (Rafiki) and myself have been threatening to huff and puff our way around the IOW for a couple of seasons now. This year, we've decided it's time to stop talking the talk and walk the walk instead, well, ride the ride actually.

We're firming things up but for now the general concept is to take the tubs over to Yarmouth and use that as the start point to circumnavigate the island anti clockwise stopping off in the Bembridge / Seaview area for cakes and tea (or a beer more likely). We'll certainly sample a few pints when back at Yarmouth and no doubt end up in Salties. I believe the distance is 65(ish) miles, lumpy at the start and flatter on the way back.

Why the chuffin' hell is he posting this push bike stuff on here again you might ask?! well, this time, it's not to get you to part with your hard earned, you did all that admirably a couple of seasons ago for the YBW/MDL charity cycle ride from Penton Hook to Ocean Village. this time, it's for fun :)

If you fancy joining us, it'll likely be sometime in June with the first weekend (3rd and 4th) looking favourite as the following weekend I am making the annual pilgrimage to the IOW Festival with my good lady and Howard has arrangements towards the back end of the month.. I've yet to agree the dates with Paul but will do so tomorrow.

Pop down a reply in this thread is you fancy coming along for the ride or just joining us at the end for a "Beer and Natter"

All the best, Gary

I'll come as long as I can ride on my motorbike? :encouragement:
Actually I circumnavigated the island last year with a group of Honda Pan European riders, great ride and brilliant island to ride around!
Good luck and hope it goes well.

More than welcome to join us, show us the way etc

Well, chaps. You can count on me...

NOT turning up.:D

However, I hope you all have a great time and just wondered whether you all tend towards the carbon fibre, superleggera end of the bicycle spectrum or more day-to-day machinery?

On which, I just remembered a pal who was not so much noted for his athleticism as for his sheer, bloody-minded determination who, on being unable not to volunteer for a long-distance charity bike-ride, insisted on completing it on a Brompton. I think it was in Wales.

I've been known to don a bit of lycra :)

AGHHH MY EYES.......

3rd June is good for me and i am very much at the lower end of the spectrum in terms of fitness and equipment.

better get training.... after i return from a week all inclusive in Barbados later this month.

I've just got my first ever road bike (BMC GranFondo), so I would be interested. Need some discussions first to get a day pass.

It's an out and out race spec bike Paul so will be interesting on the longer rides as it can be 'twitchy' but it's a keeper for me for the competitions I enter at work and I like the shorter rides pushing myself to beat my previous times. It can still be setup for longer rides with shims for the vars and seat positioning.
