For some reason I am unable to post under my original thread???'


I am not in a great hurry (after all, at the moment there are other things higher up on my to do list.
I think they will help when I Solo sail (that wont be for a couple of months), In the mean time will keep my eyes peeled and peruse a boat jumble or two....I shall find out when next one is in the Solent Area.

My Snappie 26 had the original tufnol winches. The main problem was that the sheets didn't run on to them at the right angle so the sheet worked down the winch and off the bottom! Not very helpful - hope yours are working better than that.

It's not too difficult to re-mount them on wedge-shaped pads, which will prevent those riding turns.

I overcame that by mounting a bullseye fairlead on the coaming to keep the sheetlead constant wherever the headsail track was.

The winch was on an angled platform, but for single-handed sailing that was difficult as throwing a turn off the winch was tricky. So I moved the winch back to a level part of the coaming and the new fairlead worked even better.

All good Ideas to think about for the future, as I am sure you may all agree that (as I only got her a few weeks ago) I should sail her some more before I start 'tweeking' (is that a boaty term?), I shall see how she speaks to me, and how her winching foibles (If any /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) present themselves.
