Well winter is here, so the job list begins.....

You may care to consider doing what we've had for years. We have a Firdell Blipper radar reflector and have three bands of this tape around it.

It's visible at that height for a hell of a long way, even with a hand-held torch and, as the radar reflecter is visible virtually 360 degs (except the mast width) can be seen for any direction.

Believe me, it really works and is a LOT cheaper than Full Circles long lengths. This stuff is very expensive per foot IIRC.

I keep a list on the computer, usually about 20-30 each year, with varying degrees of urgency, of which I typically finish half or more. At launch time I can cut and paste the unfinished jobs to next year's list. Some of them are getting quite old now!

jerryat et al,
I bought a job lot off ebay for about 2 quid a metre.

If you google for 3m hi visibility reflective tape it comes up with a heap of suppliers. Generally you can get it from sign makers and stores that specialise in road signs, cones etc.

I will also be putting this on the coachroof as well. It is already on all my lifesaving equipment including the danbuoy, liferings, lifejacket lights, in fact just about anywhere with a reasonable plastic surface to stick to.

It aint cheap but its better than the alternative.

A question if I may?

Is it really a good idea to install a halyard bag in the anchor locker to store the leccy windlass remote control? Will it not get soaked when you take a green one over the bow?

Or is yours truly waterproof?

It looks it, we shall see. The plug is.
The anchor locker lid is a fairly tight fit, and is cavernous, so unlikely to fill with water. Be worried if it did!
Will not be leaving it there for weeks/months at a time, just a handy place to put it rather than dangling into the locker. Will also contain the other anchoring accoutrements too, like shackles, marker bouy & line, hooks etc.

Hi Full Circle!

Yep, I bought an enormous roll of the stuff over ten years ago at what seemed a hell of high price at the time, so have plenty to see out my sailing life. It was much cheaper to do that than buy it by the (then) foot!

Like you, everything from the Danbuoy and liferings to our two inflatables has the stuff stuck on it and I totally agree that it's worth every penny.

Ok.

Only reason I asked was that Bro in law has a SO 35 and if you take a green one over the bow, lots of it shoots down the opening where the shank of the anchor/chain runs from the roller back to the windlass.

On balance, I am sure you will find it a great help to have it close to hand when needed.

Blimey! You've done well. Mine's been out of the water for six weeks, and I'm stuck on job number 4:

1. Drain hot engine oil, replace filter and oil, remove impellor (sh**, that was lucky, torn impellor blades overdue for replacement).

2. Remove sails, list repairs required, flake and pack, make mental note to phone sailmaker.

3. Wash warps and sheets, whip loose ends.

4. Make a complete list of winter jobs (up to about 40 and counting).

Good luck

Mark

Questions ....

[ QUOTE ]

Change from Camping Gaz to Calor and have dual switchable regulators to swap into either.

[/ QUOTE ]

What are these, I was considering just changing the regulator as required by unclamping the pipe. I want to carry 3, if this winter gets really cold I intend to buy a propane bottle. Do you have a link.

Add light to inside of anchor locker

[/ QUOTE ]

I have a torch clamped inside the lid, this allows it to be also grabbed quickly for use anywhere up front. By hanging upside down, it will also work as a lock light. Have a knife there too.

Re: Ahem

<<GOOD JOB shes a New boat then Jim

God help the rest of us >>

Trouble is Rog, most of these jobs are because they are not available as standard on todays production boats, and not many are seen on the 'Superior' brands either.
And I like boatfixing, as is fairly obvious.
Boatfixing jobs quoted this season - I am being made redendant. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Boat is currently under offer subject to survey so my list is;

Wash the inflatable tender.
