Yup, bought the boat I always wanted... A Fairey Super Swordsman. It's in "exceptional condition" - the surveyors words not mine. It is escaping the Hamble on tuesday to live on a proper river, i.e. The Medway. Can't wait to hoon around on it :D:D - just a few little jobs to do including new anti foul and new fire extinguishers etc. Why do all boats (that I have viewed) have very out of date extinguishers? I will post some pics soon. Cue Ben!;)

Congratulations Bassplayer. Excellent idea esp if it's the boat you've always wanted. (Shrouds have no pockets as they say)

Yes please post pictures asap, and of course you now have carte blanche generally to behave like a flaming hoon :)

We must be up to about 20 new boats on this forum so far this year. Great stuff.
 
I looked at a Fairy for sale on the Hamble a few years ago, not sure of the exact model, Huntsman I think, it was fitted with twin 470 hp ? Rolls-Royce engines with jet drives, bet that went !
I wanted play,but swimbo was not impressed with the accommodation.... shame

Tsk, K you need to have stern words with R. You find a lovely mint V48, flirt with a V52, and she has the cheek to imply neither is a "real boat". There's just no pleasing some people eh? :)

Begrudgingly, I suppose she was actually right, but that's not the point. :)

Congratulations, indeed a very proper boat... not sure its on a proper river though :rolleyes:

Cheeky s*d! It's a Super Swordsman. Not sure of the hull no. but its what Gordon Currey calls a "fit kit" boat supplied as a hull/deck assembly and fitted out elsewhere. I do have the Blue Book so I will research its history - only 4 owners from new! The engines are Sabre 215hp but they have been upgraded to later spec with regard to oil pumps etc. It has an unusal interior with a door to the forward cabin and a double bed in the aft cabin with the sink outside the heads. It has a wheel house and different forward windows plus portlights all fitted from new as far as I can see. There is very little to do apart from fixing a leak on the foredeck, prime/anti foul,fit Racor filters etc. Ben, what took so long is looking at all the cr*p out there and vastly overpriced too!
Proper pics will follow next week (including wake shot of course!) but meanwhile here is a link to the brokers ad.

looks wonderful, will sound pretty good too with twin sabres, also reading last owners comments it looks like it has been well loved and nice to see teak decks have been done, that's an expense saved.

Most of the Fairey boats that come up for sale are in need of major effort, I think the two things are related.....

Well done, lovely boat, very useable with the hard top.

Sabre's sound good, 210 is ample for her, might be smokey when cold.

We have a Fairey Owners Club rally in Lymington in a few weeks if your still on the South Coast and not set off for home.
 
Latest news

Went to Gillingham to see the boat arrive and supervise the chocking off - very important to get that right on a Fairey. The more I see the boat the more I like it. The liferaft...hmm well there is a cannister, but b*gger all inside! Ah well. Just waiting for the workshop to get back with the pricing for the work. They were all so enthusiastic about the boat, which helps. Went for lunch in the bar - 2 baked spuds with tuna, coffee and a diet coke; £5.70! Think I am going to like it there. Oh a curry night on my birthday next week too:D:D

Think he means that when out for a cruise,there will not be 500,000 boats all wanting to be in exactly the same bit of water as him.:)

When I got my boat I too replaced the extinguisher. It was 12years old and had never been touched since it was fitted by the manufacturers.
Would I be right in thinking that if the extinguisher has not been maintained (in this case the makers of the extinguisher states that its reached the end of its life after 12years, even if it has been serviced annually) the insurance would be void?

Indeed, make sure they dont put any supports under the chine rails. Other than that, several blocks under the keel and the hogs/engine bulkheads.

BTW - your hull shell was built in 5 parts, two bottom halves, two sides, and the transom.
