Well, I\'ve gone and done it now. . . . . .

After many months of idiotic buyers. incompetent estate agents and solicitors who consider a snail in treacle to be rushing, I can finally open my curtains in the morning and see the solent! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

It's about a ten minute drive to my new office (from where I am typing this on my new broadband connection!) and about 2 minutes from there to Cowes Yacht Haven. I guess I'm just going to have to buy a boat now aren't I? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Any advice on good places to go on the island, especially if you can eat when you get there, greatly welcomed!

PS - Thread on what boat I should buy to follow shortly!

Hi, spent many happy hols on the Island, and one pleasant way to spend a little time is to drive to Yaverland (between Bembridge and Sandown on the coast road, park in the car park by the beach and take the footpath up the down and along the cliff towards Bembridge head. When you get there some great views over the sea to be had, and a little cafe that does bacon sarnies and, at the right times a pub that does food. Some old gun emplacements to look at if you're into that sort of thing, along with a memorial to the first commodore of Cowes Yacht Club. All in all a v. pleasant way to spend an hour or two. Also a great place to think and put the world to rights if you're in that kind of mood.

p.s. Just bought first boat so will be on the Island in August.

For the best food , follow the local skippers at the marinas they tend to know all the good places.

A lot of the restaurant's around the marina are very good, but if you want a lively weekend night try the famous Folly's,[top of the Cowes river, a river taxi can get you there or go by car.] food is Good and he had to put solid wood tables [heath and safety thing] in to cope with the people dancing on the tables.
