Well i have finally bought one

Congratulations Andy, she looks great. The P42 is a fine choice, we enjoyed owning ours very much. We bought her (2005) with Snap Davits but got fed up removing the outboard. I had a passerelle fitted to lift an Avon RIB centre console/15hp Yamaha. (Cant recall the precise RIB length). Not an inexpensive option, but transformed the boat for us as we were using the RIB a lot.
I was visiting LYH last weekend, if I had seen the post earlier I would have come to find Rioja.

Lovely boat Andy I'm sure we've spotted her when out and about in the last couple of weeks, but don't ask me where. You sound practical so you may want to look at the Onan's impeller mine had only done 24hrs admittedly over 5years but was missing 2 blades when volvopaul did it first service since new last week, I had run it for about 45mins beforehand with no overheating issues so 3 blades work maybe :).

Thanks again guys , I am going to knock up some timber chocks to see how I get in with having the rib flat on the platform as our ribeye is fairly lightweight , but if SWMBO moans we will go with the snap davits . The generator service is also on the list when I have got hold of the parts .

Nice boat, will look out for you Andy, we are also in LYH, on C pontoon, boat called Hollywood if we pass each other anywhere.

What is it with previous owners ignoring their gennies ??? Ours from 2006 was highly suspected of still being on the original filters etc when we had had it serviced after purchasing last November !

Re the impeller change and assuming you have the MDKAU-version; It's also worth checking if the water pump casing is made of plastic (black), which I had and which broke this year. The part was replaced with a bronze one at some point, so might ba a good idea to change that too if yours is still original?

One more thing about the TAMD75's. The pipe that connects the turbo to the wastegate (hence controlling the operation of the w/g) has failed recently on both my engines. The original is a rigid copper pipe, where as the replacement part is a tube made of rubber. If you still have the originals, expect them to fail sometime in the near future. The original Volvo part is almost 200 € and the (almost) funny thing is that the rubber tube they deliver is too short!

You can get the two banjo fittings, 345 mm (6 mm dia) rubber tube and the washers for less than a tenner from a hydraulics shop. Good saving considering that you'll have to go through this route even if you buy the original part.

Very easy to change too. I can post a pic to help identify the part if needed.

Thanks for the info re those pipes Scubaman , I will have a look at them in the week . I have a different spec genny to you I think with the later pump already fitted and have ordered parts to service it ( must be competing with Volvo for most expensive parts !! )

I will let you know how I get on, cheers .

A bit late but I thought I would just post a few photos of new boat . We are well chuffed to get a P42 at last and having only owned her for a couple of weeks we are 110% confident that we picked the right boat for us . Spec is Volvo TAMD 75s ( over 32 knots delivering her from hamble  ) , raymarine E120s up and down , 4kw onan genny and a bimini for the sunny English weather  .

Have got a few niggly little jobs to sort and got to get used to 6 knots in gear at idle ( close quarters in the marina ) but hopefully will see a few of you out there for a beer or three :encouragement:
I was a bit slow to spot this post , I was admiring your boat last week , P42 is on my wish list , I just need to let the 360 go but it's not easy.
