My new FREE Ships Radio Licence arrived today, completely unsolicited. What's more all of the amendments that I have made, on line, during the course of the year have been included sans error. It was even sent out four weeks early in order to provide ample time for the cancellation of standing orders etc.

Mine too - after reading the forums I was worried it was going to be a lot of hassle but it just arrived on the doorstep.

Agree about the disc.. my boat's window above the galley is going to look empty without the disc.

Very disappointed though that there isn't a disc thingy any more

[/ QUOTE ] Interesting comment considering the howls of protest when it was first introduced about it advertising to would be thieves that there was a VHF radio on board. Personally I thought the aerial did that just as effectively!

It looks like the UK government does not care, the only purpose seems to be to allow our boats to comply with other member states rules. Without a disc they are obviously not interested in enforcement.

Seems to be a 'Win, Win' situation then.

A good bit of relaxing bureaucracy plus you imply that our lack of a visible disc is unlikely to have repercussions on the other side.

I've laminated my new licence so that it remains legible for any authority to inspect on board

[/ QUOTE ] What, all 13 pages of it?

I printed a 2nd copy of mine and made it an A5 one while I was at it. That is a more covneient size and fits into a small resealable plastic bag. It is not a photocopy so foreign officials should not be able to object.

Don't forget that if you register with the Ofcom website you will be able to make any changes necessary, eg new equipment, changes of address or apply for a licence for a new boat on line with no charge.

This very morning I received my Harbour Dues permit for the Hamble. At first I wondered how to display it, then I remembered my now redundant disc holder ! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
