My friend has just brought the above craft, fitted with twin Cummings engines.
Now he has brought it as a live aboard, He wants to fit a diesel generator as no shore power, what size diesel generator would you recommend for lighting and power,he intends to place it in the engine bay with exhaust to the outside?

If you aren´t running aircon then 3 to 4 Kw should be fine. Which make depend how much you want to spend and how long you want it to last.
But, if he is thinking about a portable generator don´t even think about fitting it inboard and don´t store it in the engine bay full of petrol. People have been killed by fire, and often carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide poisoning. They are designed to be used on the shore well away from the boat. (They are also pretty noisy)

Thank you for the information, you have confirmed my thoughts regarding noise and dangers,he is looking for a diesel generator not petrol, but point taken.i will have to some how get him to change his mind.thanks again.

If live aboard, go for a 1500rpm machine around 7kw. Got to be a proper marine unit from, kohler, cummins onan or northern lights.

Thank you for that, I found out that the boat came with a connected petrol generator originally. My friend is looking for that size a silent running one.
