The oil sump on my Vetus M2.05 is corroded and seeping oil. I have someone trying to source a replacement but if that fails the only option might be to repair it by welding on a new piece.

Any recomendations for an engineering company capable of welding a repair. Or even better an odd job welder who works for tea and bacon sanies :)

Yacht is in Cardiff bay so somewhere close would be good

My wife's Fiat Punto had a corroded sump (they're prone to that apparently) and our local friendly garage asked me if I wanted a new replacement at £££s or he could epoxy it for £20 (I think). It was rediculously cheap and still oil tight after more than 2 years. It takes a fair battering on the car so should be OK on the boat and you don't need to remove it to fix it - just drain the oil to below the leak. Simples!:)

Try JBWeld, less than a fiver, it worked on an Aluminium petrol tank on one of my bikes, still going strong..
My problem with JBWeld is it isn't a hole, it is corrosion over quite an area of the bottom of the oil pan. There is no visible hole, just a seeping of oil like the whole area became porous.

Will JBWeld cope with this?

Not Sure, but if you want to whip it off, clean it and get it to me (near Southampton). I will plate it for you, won't take more than a couple of hours.

If it is steel then almost any garage can weld a bit in to cure the problem. If its ally, then you need a more specialist welder.

I wouldnt dismiss the epoxy route if you cant get a weld at a sensible price. You need the sump off the engine and really well degreased then ground clean. Liquid epoxy over both sides of the sump and a layer or two of cloth on the inside bottom.

Phone Peter at Printmet 01446737417. (next to the VW place near Mcdonalds on road between Barry & Sully)

Another i use is on the docks opposite the Yacht Clubs but can't even describe how to get there and can't remember their name) Its right next to the first ship lock if that helps.

There is a small welding outfit without the "marine"con in Cardiff docks near the ABP buildings, behind Amethyst house, i have used them a few times and they seem very good, and have done small jobs for me while i wait.they also made a propshaft up for me, i supplied the bar, you need to go through the security gate to get there.

Yeah it will, but will take about four packs and loads of degreaser.Any updates on it?Have you put a wanted on this forum?

On a similar note, anyone know a company that could fabricate an exhaust injection elbow (maybe in stainless) for my old Petter Mini-6....the original parts are now unobtainable I am told...I currently have mine patched with gun-gum and a stainless sleeve clamped on with 3 jubilee clips...its holding but not ideal long-term.

Cheers

see this link, he works in stainless but I have no idea what he can make. If you take a few photos down he might advise you

I think express will but i had mine made in a place next to Fiddes off Penarth rd, Just down from the Marine Village but expensive. Not using them again as they are all H&S whereas i prefer to show the bloke doing the job what needs doing and help sometimes! In there a bloke in a suit sits you down and does drawings:rolleyes:

I will try post a pic also a page from the original parts diagram...here we go....difficult to get a decent photo but you can see the genral layout. The dodgy looking bit is my temporary repair, you can clearly see the water injection pipe joining the exhaust. On the parts diagram the elbow is up in the top left hand corner under the water pipe
