Welding an engine block?

Is a standard factory replacement block that expensive? Its a few grand for a brand new full replacement, surely the block can be had for less than 1k:confused:

Curious as i have the same engine:D

The crack is in the cylinder itself and is in the swept area of the piston rings so will have to see if there is someone out there willing to have a bash at welding it up and then machine the weld down???

Cylider liners are a realistic option in this case.

Tinkickers words will come back and haunt you 'Personally, I would buy a long motor and be done with the faffing about'.

A brand new, not reconditioned outright purchase long motor which even includes a new distributor is about £1,600 retail, plus freight and duty.

Already suggested a new base engine on a different thread. The OP rejected it on cost grounds. :)

Hi chaps! Not been on here for a while and see theres alot more comments.
My main problem has been locating a new block as they just dont seem to be out there!
Although there are plenty of v6/v8 blocks on ebay and other sites for realistic money, i have yet to see a 3.0 4 cylinder.
Second hand is another option but as they are raw water cooled they suffer from corrosion behind the water pump which in turn rusts out into No 1 cylinder, so finding a good one is proving to be tough!
My block on the other hand has no corrosion and has done very little hours hence why i would like to repair it if possible?
Thanks for all your input.

The prevous one on Ebay was far too expensive, however this appears to have a more sane price tag. Make the seller an offer. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260482430643&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Er? Its in Florida!

Yep I ship stuff in from US all the time, most of sensible price stuff is! Looks like this seller is prepared to ship or else he would not be putting on EbayUK. I would ask seller for shipping quote and then offer around £1,600, seems to be the going rate.
