\'Welcome to Visiting Yachtsmen\'

We have all see the signs around, what exactly does it say ?

If I arrive by power boat does it mean I am welcome ?

What about if I drive by car, can I still pop in for a drink ?

Are some club drinks licences only valid for sales to 'Yachtsmen' ?

Asking as I recently went to a Sailing club , bought drinks and signed in but noticed that no other person in the whole book had bothered to sign in correctly with a valid address which in my Club would mean that each one of them and their guests would have been breaking the law.

Yes, I hate it when the signs are mis-spelt.

Oh no, I'm turning into............ /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I have always found them most welcoming, even to a stinkpot, mind you, you have to tell 'em that.

Went to the Royal Dorset a couple of weeks back, in Weymouth. Great place, welcoming, nice and quiet, compared to Saturday Weymouth mayhem outside, and superb value, food and drink.

And I was even able to use GC1's tab /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

"Power boats are not allowed access, unless in an emergency"

Christchurch sailing club.

Re: \'Welcome to Visiting Yachtsmen\'

Daka's post was about the use of the word 'yachtsmen', which, to me, includes both motor-, and sailing-, yachtsmen.

If a sailing club wishes to exclude motor yachtsmen, or a motor boat club wishes to exclude sailing yachtsmen, that's their prerogative in my view.

It was actually about UK Alcohol licensing laws and signing the club visitors book properly but never mind this is is much more fun /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh no it wasn't...that was a subsidiary point!

Re: \'Welcome to Visiting Yachtsmen\'

Why would anyone want to exclude others - such a 'British Club' attitude and one I loathe.

We visited the Yacht Club de Compiegne last year and were warmly welcomed, offered free mooring, showers and toilets. We offered to make a donation to club funds and this was graciously accepted.

OK it is a fairly simple set up but the feelings were good and this is important.

Re: \'Welcome to Visiting Yachtsmen\'

We have always had a good welcome at sailing clubs across the UK... Wander in, write the name of your boat in the visitors log.... job done.

We have rolled up in the car, whilst between boats, to the Royal Southampton, had the door opened by a very nice fellow, and had a lovley lunch on the patio...

Royal Fowey is the finest place in Fowey for a nice lunch and drinks with the best view, and is always nice and quite and welcoming, with good affordable food...

Salcombe as well is excellent, and Brixham as well... the Royal Dart is very good too...

In fact all of these places are excellent and offer vastly superior value and are quiter and not crawling with Grockles....

Just roll up and take part! BTW; Takeing the Nintendo DS etc may give the game away.... dont dress like a chav, and no SBT's or Dobies and you should be OK.

Re: \'Welcome to Visiting Yachtsmen\'

don't really know if you are supposed to be a member of another sailing club, think it was the rather nice Brixham SC where they gave me the book to sign & said yes, member of the Lancaster Canal boat club. & didn't get slung out.

Re: \'Welcome to Visiting Yachtsmen\'

Not sure if I will get away with putting down the Indian restaurant at our marina as a sailing club /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I might have to try the "Witham and Welland Fishermen's Association" then! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
