Thinking about buying a small sailing cruiser to wander about the rias here in Galicia before I become too decrepit. But then I am undecided do I really want a boat with all the commitments involved. We live about three hours from the ria de Vigo so not taliking day sailing .Then there is the haul out and antifoul ing that has to be done in a yard. The boat will have to be in. Marina with its attendant costs and difficulties for getting in and out.I set against all these hard truths of boat owning to weigh against the pleasure of sailing..Probably not how I should think of it but having owned quite a few boats almost all secondhand and having to put them right sometimes I don’t have it clear that I do indeed want a boat.??

Trailer sailing doesn't have to mean you drag it 3 hours to the ria, spend an hour setting it up, sail for a couple of hours then 4 hours faffing and towing home. It can mean four hours towing and an hour's set up at the beginning of the season and the reverse at the end, plus free winter storage at home, including DIY antifouling.

Plus, of course, all the fettling you want to get you out from underfoot of 'er indoors when you can't escape to go sailing

Having done the 3 hour plus drive to Neyland, many times, I would say no. Even spending a weekend is not quite enough when you factor in a minimum of a 6 hour round trip, It becomes exhausting and then you find reasons for not wanting to do it.

Remember the three F words.. If it floats flies or fornicates ...... it's cheaper to rent.

But renting is not the same (especially with regards to the last F)

Lilo Lil, flies undone .. 3 Fs afloat ?

I reckon a Dacia could tow a jet ski no problem

I reckon the OP is old enough to try something different ! And that would be different…

I was informed by an RYA employee that a few years ago the RYA did a survey & discovered that the total "time on water" use of the average jetski , before boredom set in, was around 25 hours.

San Adrian de Cobres marina cheap as chips. Sod all there but no issue if you have a car. 26'ish bilge keeler that can dry out on the numerous flats in the Enseada de San Simon for maintenance purposes. Three hours sail to the best beach in the world. Nudist beach at Enseada de Barra. What's not to like?
