WEEKEND WEATHER FORECAST
==========================
Issued: 1700 Thursday 30th August 2007

FRIDAY ( see http://www.weatherweb.net/aviations/charts/AAH.htm and http://www2.wetter3.de/Fax/bracknell+36.gif )
High pressure centred to the southwest of Ireland at midday on Friday. A broad west to northwesterly flow affecting most of the rest of the UK and Ireland. Fronts extend from Northern Ireland through central England, although these generally week.
Plenty of cloud through the morning for much of the country with periods of rain affecting many western and northern areas. There could be some mist and fog patches on the coasts and hills of the western UK, the emphasis being on western Scotland, Northern Ireland, northwest England and north Wales.
The afternoon sees southern and eastern areas being dry with bright spells coming through, although always a risk of some drizzle and more cloud in the west.
Winds mainly W-WNE 15-20kt (F4-F5 locally 20-25kt (F5-F6) in northern Scotland.

SATURDAY ( see http://www.weatherweb.net/aviations/charts/AAL.htm and http://www2.wetter3.de/Fax/bracknell+60.gif )
The area of high pressure remains close by through the day, as a weak warm front passes eastwards through Scotland and England. An active cold front moves into northern Scotland.
Almost a repeat of Friday's weather. It will be a rather cloudy start to the day with drizzle, mist and fog affecting western coasts and hills. Most of this for western Scotland and northwest England, together with north Wales. Drier to the south and east, although still a risk of a patch of rain here.
The afternoon brings heavier rain to northern Scotland. Still some drizzle and low cloud on western coasts, but on the whole it will be brightening up. The best of any sunshine in east Anglia, the Midlands and central southern England.
Winds mainly W 10-15kt (F3-F4) in the south, nearer 20-30kt (F5-F7) in the far north of Scotland.

SUNDAY ( see http://www.weatherweb.net/aviations/charts/AAO.htm and http://www2.wetter3.de/Fax/bracknell+60.gif )
The cold front sinks southwards through Scotland today, as high pressure relinquishes a touch to around 47N. A westerly flow continues to affect the country.
Plenty of cloud again on Sunday with a band of rain into southern Scotland. Brighter for northern Scotland with sunny spells, whilst strong winds and an area of heavier showers push south into Shetland.
For much of England and Wales there will be bright spells but plenty of cloud, most of it in the west. Drizzle and mist is likely on western and northern coasts of Wales, as well as western Ireland.
Winds W 16-20kt (F4-F5).

Well Simon, I'm pleased that after the awful summer you have finally got a good forecast for us, in the south, at least.

You're going to have to try harder for next summer otherwise we'll have you writing 100 lines for each poor forecast with a threat of a visit to the headmaster if you persist.

May I add my thanks to those of many others on the forum Simon. I always take heed of your forecasts but I smiled about you being confused re the rest of Autumn and Winter. Aren't we all!
Without wishing to start another debate about global warming... with the strange weather we have had so far this year how certain can we be that annual patterns will stay generally the same at all? I was thinking mainly in relation to your other post about the "right time" to go transat in particular......

Thanks Boatmike,

I actually think that this year IS normal, at least more so than previous years. yes we have had exceptional rainfall in places, but overall, this is a British summer.

I'm not expecting anything spectacular in the Atlantic this autumn, but having said that there may well be another couple of cat 5's before the season is out.

Simon that is the most depressing thing I have heard in a long time. You have really spoilt my weekend. Greece is toast, we are grateful for two weeks of +20 degrees. My sister has had to vacate her farm near Brisbane due to drought (in their winter) and it's normal? Is it any wonder we have a drugs and alcohol problem? I have really gone off you fella!!!
